Trump’s veto on 2,000 US aid employees.

U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed a ban on 2,000 employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of efforts to reduce unnecessary government spending. Trump justifies the action by citing allegations of waste and misuse of funds through USAID, including the $182 crore spent in India’s elections. Legal challenges to the action are ongoing.

Trump’s veto on 2,000 US aid employees.

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump has escalated his actions. After halting U.S. aid to various countries, Trump recently imposed a ban on employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). A notice on the USAID website confirmed that 2,000 employees will be removed, and some employees worldwide will be given forced leave, with a few exceptions.

The Trump administration proceeded with this action only after a federal judge approved the layoffs. A request by employee unions to block the government’s plan was rejected by U.S. District Judge Carl Nicholas. Elon Musk's leadership of the Department of Justice (DOJ) has already led to cuts in several USAID employees, and this latest decision has created uncertainty among the remaining staff. Musk has previously accused USAID of being a "criminal organization" and wasting taxpayer money.

The Trump administration announced that it is halting funds for USAID for this very reason. As part of this, nearly 600 employees were not allowed to enter office buildings. Federal Judge Amir Ali temporarily stayed these orders last week. The judge questioned how the government could stop assistance when U.S. Congress members had approved it through USAID. Nonetheless, Trump defends his actions, citing instances where the U.S. government allegedly spent ₹182 crore through USAID to increase voter turnout in India’s elections.
